Vasile Popan - Sausage Maker in Moldova
Not too long ago Vasile Popan was unemployed and wondered how he would provide for his family. His wife Olga heard that CAMED/Invest Credit (PEER Servants’ partner in Moldova) was offering small amounts of loan capital and basic business training to help people like them start small businesses. She took a $100 loan for a cake decorating business. Their village was too small for that business to thrive, but they did repay and started considering other possible businesses

Vasile took a 2nd loan of $300 to buy pigs which he butchered and then sold the pork in the market. This did well, he repaid the loan, and qualified for successively larger loans to buy more pigs and eventually a used truck. After a lot of hard work and perseverance, Vasile was able to open a sausage business! With a commitment to quality, he has now grown the business to employ over 15 people full time and over 5 people part time. His personal annual income now exceeds $25,000 and he has become known for producing some of the best sausage in Moldova!

Vasile generously supports the orphanages in Moldova and knows that his success is due to the goodness of God and faithfulness with what God entrusted to him. Vasile also encourages others to start their own businesses.

Your gift can help another aspiring entrepreneur like Vasile to leave the ranks of Moldova’s unemployed. When a man is unable to provide for the needs of his family it often leads to other devastating problems such as alcoholism, which is a huge problem among men in Moldova. But your gift can help an entrepreneur like Vasile overcome poverty, meet family needs and become an employer. The average amount needed to help a person start or grow a small business in Moldova is $700.
