Why Volunteers?

The PEER Servants Volunteer Team is comprised of almost one hundred volunteers, each of whom has a specific role focusing on assisting partnering organizations in a given part of the world.

The day may soon come when PEER Servants will need not only volunteers, but those who receive an income for their services. While we rejoice that God has blessed us with such growth to allow for this, we remain committed to being a primarily volunteer organization.

We are committed to the volunteer model because we believe it is the most effective means of strengthening and encouraging the so-called developed world. While we remain strongly supportive of Christian missionary organizations who send full-time missionaries to parts of the world for 3-5 years terms and return for periodic sabbaticals, we believe the volunteer model offers more opportunity for changed lives in the churches and communities that are sending the longer-term missionaries. Because PEER Servants’ volunteers are a very busy crew that can dedicate only so many hours per month, we require a large number of well-coordinated volunteers to accomplish our tasks. As the lives of the PEER Servants volunteers are changed by their exposure to and relationship with brothers and sisters from around the world, they have their spheres of influence in their families, churches, workplaces, and communities that they can then impact.

As PEER Servants volunteers, we return from our trips abroad (wherein we serve our partners) a more humble people and more appreciative of how special God has made people from other parts of the world to strengthen and encourage us. We return a people more open and desirous of community because we have seen what an attractive role community plays in the lives of others; we return a people more committed to living out the life of Christ before our family members, neighbors, and coworkers and telling them about His free gift of salvation because we have rubbed shoulders with those who treasure Christ and are so eager to share Him with others.
