Flydah Mdhluli
Restaurant Owner, Caterer, Beadworker
South Africa

A few years ago, Flydah Mdhluli was selling soft drinks from her house and questioning what she could do to provide for her family.  She heard of an organization that was offering small amounts of loan capital and basic business training to help people like her start a small business.  She took a $300 loan to increase her stock at a small fast food shop.  Her business did well, she repaid the loan, and qualified for successively larger loans to grow her business into a small restaurant that employs 15 people.  Flydah then added a catering business, beadwork business, and training center for prisoners!  She now earns many thousands of dollars each year and was recognized as the Small Business Woman of the Year in the greater Pretoria area.  Listen to Flydah now -- "I want to train the unemployed, the disabled, and even the street kids.  I want to equip them so that they can escape poverty and have hope.  I want to create jobs for everyone that I can."
