JED Empowers South Sudanese Single Mother Refugees

JED had their ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 23, 2017 to celebrate the launch of SIMPAP.

Joint Effort for Development (JED), a South Sudanese NGO and PEER Servants partner, launched the Single Mother’s Poverty Alleviation Program (SIMPAP) on Saturday, September 23. SIMPAP will reach out to the huge population of South Sudanese single mother refugees given the current civil war just across the border in South Sudan. It will start with a tailoring program for 20 of these single mothers, but already envisions expansion to other vocational training programs that can allow the single mothers to generate income to provide for the most basic needs of the family. SIMPAP will also offer emotional and spiritual encouragement and a savings program that will match what a student saves so that she can leave the training program with her own sewing machine.
