Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)
The kingdom of heaven is simply amazing and virtually impossible to capture all that it is in mere words. We know a few things about it; one is that this is a kingdom where mercy is in plentiful supply. A day did not go by when Paul did not celebrate the mercy he, a murderer, had experienced personally tied to this kingdom. It is in view of this divine mercy that Paul urges the followers of Jesus in Rome to offer themselves up as living sacrifices. Such sacrifices will not be holy and pleasing to each other or themselves, but to God, the One who knows everything there is to know about them. Such sacrifices embrace selflessness that results from true transformation – not self-centeredness that follows the world’s pattern. The gift God gives to you if you are willing to become a living sacrifice is to know His will and, with your renewed mind, to be able to see how good, pleasing, and perfect a will it is.
Jesus has seized you to be a living sacrifice!
This is the first in the “Seized to Be A Living Sacrifice” series of blog posts.
