“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)
When Billy Graham, the renowned evangelist, passed away on February 2018–you could clearly see the impact he made to the community. He was a powerful preacher and evangelist, but he was most known for his character and integrity. As a result, he was so honored by America that he was buried beside their heroes, being called “America’s Pastor.”
“You are the Light of the World,” Jesus said, “Let your light shine before people that they may glorify your Father in heaven!”
Jesus is reminding you that you are not just a lightbearer, but a lightspreader. You are not your own light—but you broadcast the true Light who changed you.
Are you being a light for God’s Glory? Christianity was designed by God to spread its light for the world to see. And you spread His light best by letting the change within come out into your actions. You spread it best by showcasing Christ’s love in everything you do, in word, deed, and a life lived with integrity. You spread Christ best by preaching the Gospel, by living the Gospel such that it changes lives.
Jesus has seized you to be the light of the world!
This is the first in the “Seized to Be The Light of the World” series of blog posts and is a special submission from Pastor Erich Velasco, Group Pastor of our partner in the Philippines, The Center for Community Transformation. .
