Seized to Be A Citizen of Heaven

Key Verse

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…
Philippians 3:20 (NIV)

Short Reflection

As Christians, we are citizens of the heavenly City and are entitled to enjoy its privileges while on the other hand bound to live by its standards as those who belong to it and represent it, whether already in the City or yet to get there. Therefore, although we dwell here on Earth, our citizenship and our civic status as Christians is in heaven. Our life as Christians is in heaven, where our home is and where we all hope to be shortly. Therefore, our affections are set upon things in heaven where our heart is. As true Christians, we are expected to dwell in a distinct spirit and act in quite a manner that implies our citizenship, thoughts and affections are already in heaven. According to Apostle Paul: all the citizens of Philippi, which was a Roman colony by then, were actually referred to as citizens of their far distant imperial city. Therefore, the Philippian Christians were entitled to citizenship of a greater and more powerful heavenly City.

Just like the Philippians, as a true Christian, you are therefore “A Citizen of Heaven”.

Jesus has seized you to be a citizen of heaven!
