But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1 Peter 2:9-10 (NIV)
How does it make you feel that you are God’s special possession?! Perhaps at one point in your life you felt like nothing. Now you realize God has seized you for a very special purpose. You did not deserve mercy, and yet God granted it to you, and when you really embraced His mercy, it totally changed your perspective on yourself and others.
Why did God choose you? What specific role or task can you perform better than anyone on the planet? It doesn’t need to be some huge task that all the world may see or applaud. It may be some small task that only you see. And God. And because you do it with great love and with excellence, it puts a big smile on the face of God. Your small mustard-seed-sized task can be taken by God and generate eternal kingdom dividends.
Never, ever underestimate how special you are to God. In you, He sculpted a piece of art like no other, priceless in His eyes. Run from that darkness you once knew into His wonderful light, declaring His praises for those near and far to hear and join you in praising this great God!
Jesus has seized you to be a special possession of God!
