Unity Seed – Follow Jesus: One Mind and One Voice
Key Verse
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:5-6 (NIV)
Short Reflection
Paul used this passage to remind the followers of Christ to live in unity. Much as God uniquely created each person to serve a distinct purpose and to be a different part of the body of Christ, we were also all created to work together as one, hence describing the true concept of unity in Christianity. Paul wasn’t really emphasizing that Christ’s followers should all agree on every issue or think alike. Instead, the unity referred to here is the state of being like-minded with Christ through the renewal of our minds in accordance with the scripture. According to Paul, the importance of having one mind and one voice is not just for the sake of getting along with each other or living happily together, despite the importance and benefits that come along with that. However, the most important aspect of true Christian unity is the fact that it gives glory to God. True Christian unity comes from God and is based on Christ Jesus; hence, it always results in glorifying God.
Therefore, God. through Paul, calls you to grow in your understanding and practice of true Christian unity to give glory to God!
Lord, let this reader and I be “All for One”, and of those unity seeds we need to plant to answer Your prayer, may we remember to be of one mind and one voice (the mind and voice of Jesus) so that You can receive the glory You so richly deserve.
