And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Colossians 3:14 (NIV)
This love that binds together all these virtues is much more than a virtue. This love harmonizes differences, combines things not the same, complements varying perspectives and personalities. This love binds the wounds of our own brokenness, self-centeredness and covetousness – affecting our relationships and societies.
Only this love can clarify and purify inner motivations and can fulfill and sustain the longings of the human heart. As we see the shocking issues and tensions besetting families, communities, institutions and nations around the world, we conclude, this love is the ultimate philosophy, framework, logic, and wisdom that can integrate and bind. There is no other solution.
This is the love of God, taught and lived out by our Lord Jesus Christ. This love is a Person who desires to live in each of us. Incomparably effective in the ministry of transformation! “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” (1 John 4:16)
Praise our Almighty God, the “love of Christ controls us…” (2 Corinthians 5:14 ESV)
Only our Lord Jesus Christ can integrate and make all things whole. “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17 NIV) We plant the seed of God’s all powerful active love, our only hope for bringing us all together.
Lord, let this reader and I be “All for One”, and, as a result, help us to be “all together”.
