Lord, you establish peace for us;
all that we have accomplished you have done for us.
Isaiah 26:12 (NIV)
Structural foundations are rarely given much thought until something goes wrong with the structure or external forces pound against it. Such is the case with life and our pursuit of peace.
A person’s foundation is akin to the roots of a tree – not readily evident to the eye, but critical in determining what fruit will come and how long life will endure. As we seek the path to any form of lasting peace, let alone perfect peace, we must establish the right foundation. A life built on the foundation of greed or even material comfort will crumble, as will even a life built on the foundation of just friends or family. Eventually, we lose these things, and with the loss comes the loss of peace.
The only right foundation is God Himself. Paul assured the Romans and he would assure us today that nothing, even the strongest of external forces, can separate us from God’s love. If it’s perfect peace we want, our minds and our trust need to be grounded in God.
Is God your foundation? Is He really your foundation? Spend time with Him. Walk humbly with Him. Reestablish Him as your life’s foundation as you journey on the Path to Perfect Peace.
This is the first in the “Establish a Peaceful Foundation” series of blog posts.
