The Path to Perfect Peace – Establish A Peaceful Foundation: Contentment
Key Verse
Lord, you establish peace for us;
all that we have accomplished you have done for us.
Isaiah 26:12 (NIV)
Short Reflection
Peace is such an elusive commodity today. Diplomacy isn’t doing too well internationally; relationships in marriages don’t have too good a track record; conflict resolution and therapy are a growth industry; and in the workplace, stress is costing billions.
I have been blessed recently reading Contentment by Richard Swenson. He makes the point that peace flows out of a contented life. Contentment in Christ is the best foundation of a peace-filled life.
As I write this, our Australian town is facing a 1-in-100-year flood. On last night’s news, we watched a new house floating down the local swollen river. It was the home of a couple who planned to marry yesterday. They have lost everything they owned on their wedding day. The foundations were obviously not up to such a flood.
Isaiah tells us that the LORD is the foundation and source of true peace. Gritting our teeth and trying harder won’t work. It is a sobering reminder that ALL we might have accomplished HE has done for us! Jesus meant what He said on the Cross: “It is finished”. Peace be with you!
