Great peace have those who love your law,
and nothing can make them stumble.
Psalm 119:165 (NIV)
We are far enough along in this year’s “Perfect Peace” blog to appreciate that God is passionate about our experiencing peace – with Him, within, and with each other. I still marvel at the reality that God has allowed us to have His words captured in a book. If we want to experience peace, we have to read God’s words.
If we want to experience great peace, even perfect peace, God calls us beyond just reading His words to loving them. We are called to be Law Lovers. Isaiah 26:3 tells us to that perfect peace comes to those who keep their minds stayed on God. The best way to keep your mind stayed on God is to be intimately familiar with His words – even to love them.
The writer of this Psalm reminds us that great peace is not the only benefit of Law loving – stumble-free living is as well. There are lots of folks with little peace and lots of stumbling these days. If you want to experience perfect peace and avoid stumbling, become a Law Lover. Read God’s words. Love them.
This is the first in the “Read God’s Words” series of blog posts.
