The Path to Perfect Peace – Follow Jesus’ Humility: Interests of the Others

Key Verse

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus…

Philippians 2:3-5 (NIV)

Short Reflection

Even us, like the believers at Philippi, need to be reminded. Looking after the interests of others in the spiritual body of Christ apparently does not come naturally. Only choosing to live by the nature of Christ in us can His humility operate and stir in us the genuine concern for the interests of others. Even if these are not similar to our own interests. Precisely what the Apostle Paul’s exhortation is all about. Precisely what the Lord Jesus wants us to do – to trust God for our own needs. Meanwhile our Lord wants us to go beyond ourselves, even sacrificially. What a privilege to be the Lord’s instrument to bless others! Further, when the spiritual body of Christ is strengthened as each looks to the interests of others, the Lord uses His people to attend to the special interests of other people – the poor, the orphans, the widows, the downtrodden.

At the end of the day, after we embrace the humility of our Lord Jesus and intentionally attend to the interests of others, we experience His peace and joy. The spiritual body of Christ is strengthened and become His hands and feet to help bring His peace and joy to others.
