The Path to Perfect Peace – Center on the Spirit: Not Afraid
Key Verse
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:26-27 (NIV)
Short Reflection
How are you doing on your Path to Perfect Peace? We hope and pray well. There is a critical companion on that Path that you need to make certain you have, and that is God’s Spirit. In fact, if you want to experience Perfect Peace, you will need to Center on God’s Spirit.
The Holy Spirit was Jesus’ gift to us. Jesus’ time on earth was limited to 33 years, so He couldn’t walk with each of us, but He sent us One who could. The Holy Spirit can be with us at any time, at any place, and under any circumstance. In fact, He specializes in being with us when we are troubled and prone to fear.
What is troubling you today? What is it that is taking away your Perfect Peace? Whatever it may be, it’s not too big for God, and the Holy Spirit will remind you of that. When we center on the problem, it can consume us. When we center on the Spirit, then we can stay our minds on God and be reminded how we can always trust Him.
Don’t forget what we have already learned. Perfect Peace results not from a certain set of circumstances, but on the presence of God. If we center on God’s Spirit, He will gently remind us that God is near and that we do not need to be afraid.
This is the first in the “Center on the Spirit” series of blog posts. Future week’s posts will come from our PEER family members and friends in Australia, Zambia and Burundi.
