Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
“In every situation” challenges us to stretch our faith farther and farther to encompass all kinds of troubling situations we could ever imagine finding ourselves in. It also tests how much do we intimately and experientially know more and more of the nature and the promises of our God who dares us to trust in Him in every situation. Would the sheep trailing behind the Good Shepherd 24/7 ever experience worry? “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
The truth is that no adverse situation of any kind could ever stand before the power of God’s love sovereign over all who trust Him even when emotions agonize, minds race in doubt and circumstances disturb. Romans 8:38-39 says: “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Challenge to self: At the end of every day or week, reflect on all the difficult situations you encountered. What did you experience in each after wholeheartedly obeying the admonition for God’s people in Philippians 4:6-7?
