The Path to Perfect Peace – Persevere Under Pressure: The Overcomer
Key Verse
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (NIV)
Short Reflection
In a world plagued by pandemic, devastated by war, erupting volcanoes, earthquakes, flood, famine and fire, peace is a rare commodity, but not pressure! We all want to see the pandemic pass so we can return to some normality in life. The sooner the better because we live in an age when ‘short-termism’ is the norm. What we want, we want NOW.
Jesus has been warning the disciples of the suffering and sorrows that were to come. It seems strange that He is promising them peace knowing what is coming, encouraging them to take heart. How is that possible? By persevering, hanging in there, despite all the pressures of life.
Pressure and stress is not all bad. I need pressure to reach deadlines, to get difficult tasks done. I call that good stress. The alternative is dis-tress. The choice is ours. Jesus promises peace in Him as we persevere under pressure. So, let’s take heart. Despite signs to the contrary, He has overcome the world.
