Mission Possible – End Hunger, Achieve Food/Water Security: Palpable Kingdom Presence
Key Verse
And if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
Isaiah 58:10 (NIV)
Short Reflection
If…if…then…The prophet Isaiah is telling his listeners and us that there are conditions they and we need to meet if we are going to make a palpable kingdom presence in a world of oppression and darkness.
The first condition is that we are to spend ourselves on behalf of the hungry. That is no easy calling, and no cheap grace is involved. The demand is for total self-giving.
Then we are called to satisfy the needs of the oppressed. In a world of blatant inequality, and of rife oppression, we are called to recalibrate our lifestyles. Often wants become needs; not so in the majority world where needs are, by comparison, very basic. Their needs are for survival.
As we meet these conditions, the rewards are life changing. Light will begin to shine in a dark, selfish, oppressive and sinful world. Hope will replace despair. And the world will witness a palpable kingdom presence. Your kingdom come becomes a reality.
This is the third in the “End Hunger and Achieve Food and Water Security” series of blog posts on our Journey to Palpable Kingdom Presence and is prepared by our good friend, David Cohen. A passion for Christian service has motivated ministry all their lives and their love for the Church helps them to encourage others to see their ministries mature and better reflect the great reconciler we follow, Jesus Christ.
