“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that.“
Matthew 5:43-47 (NLT)
We have had quite a journey on this path to “palpable kingdom presence”! It has been a challenging path, just as Jesus said it would be, but an extremely rewarding path. If we are faithful in pursuing the path, something pretty amazing happens – people of any or no faith will ultimately benefit.
This Heavenly Father of ours is something else! He is so full of mercy, so loving, that He will bless even those who hate or ignore Him. He calls us to become like Him, to love our enemies. In so doing, we become His true children.
If people of any or no faith saw true followers of Jesus, I am certain many more of them would also become followers of Jesus. All of us are longing to be loved the way Jesus loves. Let’s go love everyone around us the way Jesus loves them and then marvel at the “palpable kingdom presence” that is sure to follow.
This is the first in the “Provide Services to People of Any or No Faith” series of blog posts on our Journey to Palpable Kingdom Presence.
