Living Fully Under Christ’s Lordship

Key Verse

“You cannot serve two masters… You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”
— Matthew 6:24 (NLT)

In a world overflowing with distractions, temptations, and competing priorities, it’s easy to call ourselves followers of Christ. But is Jesus truly our Master? “No one can serve two masters,” He warned in Matthew, reminding us that true allegiance leaves no room for divided loyalty. Master is not just a title, it’s a position of ultimate authority that demands complete surrender. And yet, while many profess Him as Lord, their lives often tell a different story. The real question is: Is Christ truly the Master of your life?

To make Christ your Master is to embrace obedience, not as an occasional act, but as a way of life. Jesus was clear about the cost of discipleship in John 14:1. True surrender means obeying Him even when it’s uncomfortable. Many call Him “Lord” but ignore His commands.

Making Christ our Master also means He owns our priorities. Where we spend our time, resources, and energy shows who truly rules our hearts.  If Christ is Master, He comes before careers, comfort, and even self. The early Church lived this out—do we? (Matthew 6:21)

When Jesus is Master, He also shapes our identity. When we belong to Christ, our old self dies and a new life begins. Paul wrote, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20, NLT). If Jesus is our Master, His values shape our identity, not the world’s approval or our past.

Finally, a true Master expects total surrender. This isn’t about occasional sacrifice. Jesus taught that true servants obey without expecting reward (Luke 17:7–10). Paul echoed this: “You are not your own; you were bought at a price”. If Christ is Master, we surrender all. Our dreams, rights, and future, trusting His will above ours.

This is the disciple’s progression: surrender → obedience → multiplication. As we die daily, Christ resurrects His life through us and the harvest comes. A true Master is followed, not just praised. If He’s your Master, your life will show it.
