Modeling Christ: Reflecting His Light for Multiplication

Key Verse:
“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 11:1 (NIV)

What does it really mean to model Christ, and what does it mean to be a model for Him? These aren’t just theological questions; they are questions that touch our everyday lives. When Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission, He wasn’t asking them to simply repeat His words. He was calling them to reflect His life, to share not only what they had heard from Him but also who they were becoming because of Him. Modeling Christ is not about lofty speeches or outward appearances, it is about allowing His character to flow through our choices, relationships, and attitudes in ways that multiply His Kingdom.

The truth is, we live in a world overflowing with role models. From celebrities and influencers to entrepreneurs and coaches, everyone is shaping someone’s idea of success, beauty, or identity. But for followers of Jesus, the standard is different. It’s not built on likes or popularity, but on reflecting His heart. And we can’t do this on our own strength. Instead, Jesus calls us to lean on Him, to be transformed by His Spirit, and to carry His light wherever we go, into our schools, workplaces, families, and neighborhoods.

I gave my life to Christ in 2010 while studying overseas. Before then, I lived however I wanted. I was in a relationship where sex outside of marriage felt normal. I filled my mind with music that cursed God and degraded women, singing along without realizing I was agreeing with those words. I carried deep bitterness toward my father for what I saw as his absence in my childhood. My life was marked by secrecy and distrust. I assumed people always had bad intentions toward me.

But when I met Christ, everything changed. That moment was a turning point. Instead of crushing me, Jesus began rebuilding me, slowly and patiently. He changed what I consumed, reshaped my desires, and worked on my character. He’s still working on me today, and any patience, joy, or compassion others see in me is simply Christ living in me.

When we look at Jesus’ life, we see a clear rhythm: He spent time with the Father, and He spent time with people. He lived in constant dependence on His Father, saying, “I do nothing on my own.” If the Son of God Himself lived in such obedience, how much more must we? Yet the reality is that our lives are full of noise;work, studies, social media, distractions that crowd out the very relationship we claim to value. To model Christ, we must first make space to be with Him.

Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:9, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” True peace flows from a life rooted in God. Modeling Christ simply means sitting at His feet, hearing His voice, and living it out. So the question is, Who is learning about Jesus through my life? Am I multiplying His peace, love, and truth in the spaces I enter each day?

My prayer is that we would reflect Christ so clearly that others are drawn to Him, as His Spirit transforms us and His light spreads through every home, community, and nation.
