Nous sommes ensemble – We are together

What carries us when the year feels long, the road stretches us, and the call to love feels costly? What steadies us when joy and challenge sit side by side in ways we didn’t expect?

At the halfway mark of this year, as Peer Servants family, we are reminded of something we cannot afford to forget: we are not doing this alone.
There is a simple yet deeply meaningful French phrase: “Nous sommes ensemble” — we are together. It’s more than words. It speaks of unity, shared responsibility, belonging, and a commitment to stand side by side in every season. It means that in moments of strength and in moments of struggle, we remain connected, we remain present, and we keep moving forward as one.
In South Africa, this same heartbeat is captured in the word Ubuntu — “I am because we are.” Across cultures and contexts, God continues to echo the same truth: we were never created to walk this journey alone. As a Peer Servants family, this is something we carry and live quite naturally. Yet at the same time, we are called to keep widening the circle — to be intentional about inclusion, making space and inviting others to be part of what God is doing among us.

Scripture grounds us in Romans 12, where we are reminded that we are one body with many parts. Each part has a different function, yet all belong to one another. This picture is not just about structure—it is about love. To be one body means we are called to care for one another, to honour one another, and to serve one another. In other words, this is what it looks like to love like Jesus in practice.

As we reflect on the first half of the year, our theme, “Love Like Jesus,” comes into even clearer focus through this lens. Loving like Jesus is not something we do in isolation—it is expressed in how we live as one body. It is seen in how we show up for one another, how we carry one another’s burdens, and how we remain committed to each other even when it costs us something. This is the love that builds unity. This is the love that strengthens the body.

Across different nations and contexts, we have seen this love take shape in real and meaningful ways. And at this midpoint, we take a moment to reflect on what God is building across our Peer Servants family globally. In different places, we see the same thread — a commitment to love like Jesus, to remain faithful, and to walk together. This is more than human effort; it is God shaping us into one body with one heart.

“Nous sommes ensemble” is not just something we say — it’s something we live. It comes alive when we choose connection over isolation, when we recognise that every person has a part to play, and when we move forward with a shared sense of purpose.
The first half of the year has held both stretching and growth, but it has also revealed something deeply encouraging: when we love like Jesus as one body, we grow stronger together.
As we step into the second half of the year, the invitation remains clear. Stay fixed. Stay focused. Stay rooted in love. But do it together. Keep encouraging one another. Keep making space for others. Keep aligning your heart with what God is doing across the whole body.

And when the journey feels heavy or uncertain, let this truth anchor you again:
Nous sommes ensemble.
We are together.
No one is alone. We move together.
Let’s finish this year united, intentional, and full of His love.
