Give Us Today Our Daily Bread

“Give us today our daily bread” is more than a prayer for food. It is a humble declaration that our
lives depend on God. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray these words in Matthew 6:11, He
reminded them to trust the Father for their daily needs rather than being consumed by
tomorrow’s worries.

Daily bread represents everything we need to live—food, strength, wisdom, opportunities,
peace, and grace. God invites us to bring our needs before Him, trusting that He knows what is
best for us. This prayer also teaches contentment. Instead of constantly chasing more, we learn
to appreciate what God provides today.

But there is another deeper meaning. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35). Our
greatest need is not merely physical provision but spiritual nourishment. We need God’s Word,
His presence, and a growing relationship with Christ every day.

When we pray, “Give us today our daily bread,” we are saying, “Father, I trust You with today.”
We acknowledge that yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not guaranteed, but today is a gift.
So, pray, trust, receive, and walk faithfully. The God who provides today will remain faithful tomorrow.
