Empowering Women-led Households in a Post-Conflict Society

Partner: YGro/HEED

Partner Since: 2001

Programs Supported by PEER Servants: Microfinance, Education, Food/Water Security

Sri Lanka’s long civil war left many households led by women. YGro-HEED is walking with these women and their families in these post-conflict years. For over 20 years, HEED (Holistic Empowerment through Enterprise Development) has offered thousands of micro-entrepreneurs, 75%+ of whom are women, access to affordable credit and basic business training. The needs of women-led households in Sri Lanka are great as many of their husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons were killed, disabled, or forced into exile during the war. YGro also provides education programs to enable disadvantaged children to dream and pursue their opportunities. Very challenging days have returned to Sri Lanka, and YGro is using food security programs to stabilize the families of those served by their microfinance and education programs.
